Foodaid.Compassion is now Munsel Foundation The founding principals of Foodaid.compassion (Foodaid.com) started in the mid 1970's working with large supplementary food programs which were part of maternal child health projects. These programs ranged from emergency and direct distribution assistance in Sierra Leone, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, and Mozambique, to transitional programs in Armenia, Ethiopia, and Georgia and development programs in Cote d'Ivoire, Kenya, and Bangladesh. They assisted in the development and implementation of foodaid programs for Winrock International, Catholic Relief Services, World Vision, Africare, Technoserve, and Save the Children Federation; advised USAID missions, Food for Peace, USDA and Private Voluntary Organizations (PVOs) on commodity and monetization programs; and authored commodity management manuals. In cooperation with others, they helped found Foodaid.com in September 1999. Foodaid.com continued to work with relief and development programs in Africa and Southeast Asia assisting established non-profits. In 2003 Foodaid.com begin to develop their own programs which has led to a well established presence in Vietnam. February 2007 saw a major change in the scope of the work when the Board of Directors was enlarged and the first project was started in Tibet. To celebrate the growth, a new name was chosen along with a new president. Munsel is a Tibetan word that means to dispel darkness. The organization's mission from the beginning has been to help those who are suffering from poverty, illiteracy, disease, and malnurishment. With our new president, Venerable Khenpo Gawang Rinpoche, a committed board of directors and core staff, and the assistance of an ever-growing team of volunteers, we look forward to our future. |
